Exploring the beauty of Acadia National Park is one of the best ways to stay active, especially as spring arrives. With fresh air, scenic trails, and ocean views, it’s easy to jump right into hiking, biking, and outdoor work. But staying injury-free is just as important as staying active. At active acadia Physical Therapy, we believe a little preparation goes a long way in helping you enjoy every moment safely.

Why Injury Prevention Matters

Outdoor activities can be tough on your body if you’re not ready. Uneven trails, slippery rocks, and long hours of movement can lead to strains, sprains, or overuse injuries. Taking simple steps before and during your adventures can keep you strong and pain-free.

Spring Earth Day Roadside Clean-Up

Spring is a special time in Acadia, and many volunteers take part in road side clean-up efforts. Volunteer April 25, 2026. Find more information from the website below.  https://friendsofacadia.org/get-involved/events/earth-day-roadside-cleanup/

  • Cleaning garbage from the roadside

  • Picking up litter and debris

Top Injury Prevention Tips

Whether you're hiking or helping with spring clean-up, follow these tips to protect your body:

1. Warm Up FirstBefore starting any activity, take 5–10 minutes to stretch and get your blood flowing. Focus on your legs, back, and shoulders.

2. Use Proper Lifting TechniquesWhen picking up heavy objects:

  • Bend at your knees, not your waist

  • Keep the object close to your body

  • Avoid twisting while lifting

3. Wear the Right GearSupportive footwear with good traction can prevent slips and falls. Gloves can also protect your hands during clean-up work.

4. Stay Hydrated and Take BreaksEven in cooler spring weather, your body needs water. Take breaks to rest and avoid overuse injuries.

5. Listen to Your BodyIf something doesn’t feel right, stop and rest.
